San Luis Obispo County sub AVA
Central Coast AVA
fun, unexpected find, this wine that got us thinking about writing reviews on wines available at Trader Joe’s. We live very near a Trader Joe’s and tend to shop there often. And with these warm, long summer nights in Portland, we frequently find ourselves relaxing with a glass or two of wine. This wine is most definitely not a budget-buster and really is a great porch or patio sipper.
If you’re not familiar with the Albariño grape, it creates a dry white wine heavy with mineral notes. (Click here to learn more about mineral flavors.) When grown in a warmer climate, such as San Luis Obispo, Albariño takes on a fruitiness layered atop that unique minerality. This wine is part of the Trader Joe’s brand so we think it should be widely available in their stores.
Sunshine yellow in color, summertime aromas of honeysuckle and apricots leapt out of our glasses as we swirled and swirled. One sip and we were hooked by the Meyer lemons, apricots and dry minerals dancing around in our mouths! Although we drank this wine on its own, we’re certain it would complement many types of foods. As with many wines from Trader Joe’s, if you find something you like, we recommend stocking up because when it’s gone, it’s gone…
