2014 Floriana Grüner Veltliner

ur love letter to a mouthful of a grape– oh Grüner Veltliner, let us count the ways we love thee… your mouthfeel is lithe and bright and you always smell like fresh rain on a summer day. You are often the color of morning dew drops and taste of tart limes and lemons.

This Hungarian Grüner, available at Trader Joe’s has all that and more! We smelled tart notes of passionfruit and lemon zest, as well as fresh rain and honeysuckle flowers. When we sipped this wine, we found those aromas on our tongues, along with tart granny smith apples and gooseberries that made our mouths water for another sip. It’s a very dry, crisp white wine that is a steal for the price.

We often sip this wine as we cook meals or while basking in the afternoon sun. The back label suggests enjoying it with chicken, seafood and finger foods, all of which would be delicious with it.

I’ve never seen a back label like that, but it certainly takes a lot of guesswork out of buying an unfamiliar bottle of wine! I can’t wait to sip a glass of wine in the afternoon sunshine. COME ON SUMMER!

I’ll admit: I’m skeptical… I have yet to buy a Trader Joe’s wine that I love, or even really like. But I totally trust your tastes and will seek this one out next time, for sure! 🙂 Gotta love a good Grüner Veltliner. There are so few locally grown Grüner grapes but the ones I’ve tasted were delicious. Cheers!

      Hi Marlynn-

I was in your exact shoes until we moved mere blocks from a Trader Joe’s and started shopping there just about daily! I have found that I’m more fond of their whites and rosés than their reds. Thanks for the compliment too! Let me know what you think after you try it.

      Cheers, Michele
