Willamette Valley AVA
hree Otters is the second label made by Fullerton Wines out of the SE Wine Collective in Portland, Oregon. The Fullerton family has long had ties to otters, in fact their family crest includes them, so it’s no surprise they chose a friendly bevy of otters to grace their front label. Three Otters wines are playful and meant to be enjoyed in their youth rather than stashed in the cellar for years and years.
Just 25% of this Pinot was aged in neutral oak barrels with the rest spending time in stainless steel tanks. 2014 was a warm year in the Willamette Valley so the area’s grapes grew plump and ripe over the long, hot summer. This created a wine filled with ripe black cherries and blackberries along with red licorice and cedar notes. This Pinot was structured yet possessed a simple lushness that kept us wanting more, sip after delicious sip!
We would likely enjoy the Three Otters Pinot all by itself since it had such a lovely, silky mouthfeel but if you want to pair it with food, try it with herb-roasted chicken, lightly steamed carrots or a rustic bread smeared with locally made truffle butter.
