2014 Troon Vineyard Vermentino Applegate Valley Southern Oregon AVA Oregon Only 167 cases produced Screw cap closure A unique field blend of mostly Vermentino with some Sauvignon blanc, the grapes in this wine were grown, harvested and fermented together. This winemaking technique is common in other parts of the world but not often found in the US. But ain’t that the Oregon pioneering way? With aromas of lemons and cantaloupe and just a whiff of neutral oak, this wine made our mouths water even before tasting a sip. And as this delightful white wine touched our lips, we tasted flavors of honeydew melon, lemons and lime zest with wet stone. The citrus flavors indicated higher acid levels and the wet stone component indicated good minerality, both ideal traits in a food friendly wine. This Vermentino blend was medium bodied with good texture and a slightly oaky, saline finish. Troon’s General Manager Craig Camp loves italian food, so we think you should pair this wine with fettichini alfredo, an orzo and zucchini salad or Pasta con le Sarde. The creaminess of the alfredo and the saltiness in all the dishes will kick the wine into high gear!
