PORTLAND, Ore. (Aug. 6, 2015) – On July 23, “Top Chef” contestants Mei Lin, Doug Adams and Gregory Gourdet, finalists in the most recent season of Bravo’s competitive cooking show (Season 12), united their culinary forces to create an outstanding meal to benefit the Children’s Cancer Association (CCA). The dinner was held on an unforgettable summer evening at Penner-Ash Wine Cellars. Guests took in views of the Chehalem Valley while listening to music performed by Americana band Hook and Anchor and savoring dishes such as Grilled Heirloom Tomato with Creamy Poblano Dressing and Cojita; Albacore Tuna Tataki with Dried Peach Miso, Ginger, Radish and Oregon Wasabi; 24-Hour Smoked Beef Short Rib with Bread & Butter Summer Squash and BBQ Sauce. Each dish was paired with wines personally selected by Winemaker Lynn Penner-Ash. Through generous donations from the winery, guests, chefs, and musicians, the benefit dinner raised nearly $20,000 for CCA and their MyMusicRx program, which delivers the healing power of music to kids and teens facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
“The ‘Top Chef’ dinner was a night of incredible food, world-class wine and the generosity of those who attended. The $20,000 raised will allow CCA to deliver music medicine to the bedside of thousands of children, teens and families in our community and across the nation,” said Jenny O’Bryan, Children’s Cancer Association Director of Development. “CCA’s programs are fueled by partnerships with community-minded business leaders like Ron and Lynn Penner-Ash who share our belief that that joy matters and music heals.”
A second benefit concert and dinner for the Children’s Cancer Association will take place on Saturday, August 22. Fifteen-time Grammy Award-winning musician, Béla Fleck, known as the premier banjo player in the world, will perform an intimate concert with singer-songwriter Abigail Washburn. James Beard Award-winning Chef Vitaly Paley will prepare a picnic for guests to enjoy on the lawn as they take in the show and sip exceptional wines from Penner-Ash Wine Cellars. Tickets for the August 22 concert, wine and picnic dinner are $125 per person and can be purchased at www.joyrx.org/winery. Seating will be outside on the lawn; festival chairs and blankets are welcome.
Penner-Ash’s passion for music is evident in their sponsorship of MusicFestNW, where Penner-Ash is the exclusive wine seller at the festival. They are also bringing together a love for music and philanthropy for the sold out benefit show for ¡Salud! featuring Eddie Palmieri in concert with the Portland Jazz Festival on August 8.

The Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) believes joy matters and music heals. Nearly two decades ago, CCA pioneered a one-of-a-kind pediatric “music medicine” program called MyMusicRx that lets kids choose the music experience that feels right to them. The in-hospital MyMusicRx program includes bedside sing-a-longs led by trained music specialists, instrument lending from mobile music carts, tablet checkouts and live concerts from national recording artists. MyMusicRx.org extends the bedside music experience to an online platform and invites kids facing cancer and other serious illnesses to feel the music and feel better, by exploring exclusive artists greetings, concerts, music lessons, digital instruments, and games anytime, anywhere. See MyMusicRx programs in action here, and for more information, visit www.mymusicrx.org.
