Was there a specific wine, moment or place that unlocked your passion?
Carla David: My interest more developed from my interest in plants and medicine and the potential to preserve the harvest in a fermented form that would bring my “Food as Medicine” philosophy to more people if the product was tasty and desirable as a social beverage regardless of any medicinal properties of the plants I was making wine from.
What did you study in school and what were you doing before you started in the wine industry?
CD: I studied photojournalism but, before I got started in the wine industry, I was an herbalist, organic farmer/gardener/landscaper and environmental educator.
How has being in the wine industry changed you?
CD: It has helped me see that I bring a gift to the people who support me and their appreciation for my product is extremely gratifying.
What’s your favorite part of being in the wine industry?
CD: The interactions I have with people and the variety of tasks that I accomplish. There’s rarely a dull moment! I love wearing many hats and working with the seasons!
