Westrey Wine Company was started by winemakers Amy Wesselman and David Autrey back in 1993. So to celebrate the 20th vintage of Westrey, they produced their special Cuvée 20 Pinot noir, made using the four best barrels in the cellar. Three were chosen from their own Oracle Vineyard and the other from the Abbey Ridge Vineyard. The grapevines from both vineyards are quite old by Oregon standards and by taking good care of them season after season, the harvest fruit continues to be of stellar quality and flavor.

2012 was a pretty warm vintage in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, yet the grapes in this cuvée blend developed great acid levels, contributing to a lovely texture and elegance in the finished wine. After aging in oak barrels for 19 months, this Pinot was bottled in early 2014. We found red fruit aromas of cranberries and strawberries, mixed with chocolate mocha on the nose. When we sipped, we tasted abundance cherries; bing, red, black and sour, along with tart cranberries and pomegranates. Earthy flavors of cedar and sandalwood grew into a long, decadent black pepper finish.

We think the Westrey Cuvée 20 Pinot noir would be delicious with eggplant parmesan, pork tenderloin or creamy polenta drizzled with truffle oil and fresh black truffle shavings.

SRP $60.
