Long before biodynamic farming was trendy, Gabriele and Craig Keeler were doing it on their entire 200 acre property. Their land is filled with critters, insects, birds of prey, compost piles, bodies of water and flowers, all doing their part in creating a happy ecosystem for the Keeler wine growing operation.

Selling most of their fruit to a major Oregon winery, they hold onto just enough for their own winery label, Keeler Estate Vineyard. And boy am I glad they do! This wine is complex, with all the notes one expects in a classic Oregon Pinot!

Garnet red in color, this wine is a blend of three different clones of Pinot noir; Dijon 777, Pommard and Wadenswil. Harvested within the same week, the juice from each clone was fermented and barreled separately, then eventually blended together to form this wine.

On the nose, we found earthy black fruit notes of black cherries and blackberries. A second swirl and sniff opened with mushrooms, forest floor and coca nibs, then again a wave of the black fruit smells.

This Pinot noir tasted of all those aromas and more! Red fruits made an appearance with sour cherries and cherry pie flavors emerging as we continued to sip on this wine. It had great acidity and a long finish, making it a great match with many different types of food. Pair it with bacon-stuffed mushrooms, savory roasted pork butt or French onion soup.

Don’t forget to buy a bottle (or several) of this wine before it’s gone! Did you see they only made 65 cases? That’s just 780 bottles!
