If you have a hankering for the tropics, you must buy this wine! If I had only one word to describe the Abacela Albariño, it would be passionfruit! Thankfully, I’m not limited to just one word, but wow, this wine brings me right back to Hawaii!
Bouquet:
All the smells I associate with Hawaii! Tropical notes of passionfruit, pineapple, gardenias and lemongrass all tickle my nose. On a second sniff, these combine with more tart aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest and gooseberries.
Palate:
With my first sip, those aromas transformed into the same flavors in my mouth. I also tasted honeysuckle and ginger before everything melded into a long, tart finish. Yum!
Food pairing suggestions:
Crab cakes, pan-seared halibut with lemons and capers, blistered shishito peppers sprinkled with sea salt, chicken with ginger passionfruit sauce.
