If you live in Santa Barbara or plan a trip there, make a point to stop by Margerum Wine Company. With a hip tasting room down near the beach, just off State Street, the winery offers a wide variety of wines, all made with local fruit. Beyond the Margerum wines, you’ll find Doug Margerum’s second label called Barden, made exclusively with grapes grown in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA.
This fruity wine is from 12 different sites in the county and is 100% Grenache. After the grapes were destemmed, they fermented in 1.5-ton open top fermenters before aging in neutral French oak puncheons. The result is a little reminiscent of an herby strawberry jam. Yum! Serve it slightly chilled and enjoy.
