FoodWorx, a conference centered around a wide variety of food issues, is returning to Portland. With a focus on four major categories; Food & Health, Food & Environment, Food & Economics and Food & Society, these topics were selected to initiate thoughtful discussions on how these issues affect our communities. Everyone from consumers to those in the trade are encouraged to join influential food industry thought leaders from near and far.

Confirmed guest speakers at FoodWorx are:

Dana Gunders from the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco who will talk about food waste and resource implications;

Kurt Huffman from Portland’s ChefStable Group will talk about sexy restaurants and what sells in restaurant development;

Local Portland superstar, Lisa Schroeder, Chef/Owner of Mother’s Bistro, who will talk about rediscovering the culinary legacy of our own forefathers and mothers;

Gregg Abbott from the Oregon Street Foods Association will discuss the recent rise in food cart popularity and implications for restaurant businesses and food tourism;

Rob Holmes from Green Living Project Films in Los Angeles will show how storytelling in films is revolutionizing the food industry

When asked why Portland was chosen to host FoodWorx, Erik Wolf, FoodWorx Organizer and Executive Director of World Food Travel Association said, “FoodWorx is inspired by Portland, Oregon. Portland and environs have some of the world’s best wines, some of the world’s best beers, some of the world’s freshest produce & meats and a thriving, creative culinary culture, all in a highly walkable, bike-friendly, eco-friendly and compact city surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature on the planet. Our city has been called by some the “Disneyland of Food,” or even better, the Center of the Foodie Universe. No, we’re not New York City or San Francisco, and, well, that’s the point!”

FoodWorx not only provides a platform for food discussion but also the opportunity to connect with some of the most interesting people in today’s food industry. By attending, global food citizens will have a voice and can make a difference in the future of the food world. Attendees are encouraged to come early to the conference or stay late so they can experience all the excitement of Portland’s culture and food scene.

Wolf explains, “The discussions we will have at FoodWorx are discussions that are already happening in Portland and Oregon and the Pacific Northwest and we’ve seen some of the most innovative environmental, societal and economic ideas in food come out of our region. FoodWorx allows us not only the opportunity to share with the rest of the world what we are doing here, but also to attract world class thought leaders to Portland this year and in coming years to inform and inspire our delegates.”
