Believe Again – A Christmas Shopping Giveaway

Support local businesses by doing holiday shopping at Virginia City’s unique and boutique stores this year, stay the night, eat at a restaurant, and be entered to win a $500 gift card. Visitors can bring receipts to the Visitors Center and receive a raffle ticket for every $5 spent in town. Two winners will each receive a $500 shopping spree in Virginia City. Shop between Dec. 1 – 19. Winners announced Dec. 20. Visitor Center hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
Holiday Decorating Contest
Dec. 3 – 19
Virginia City’s shops don’t just decorate for Christmas, they go full Clark Griswold. With lights bright enough for Santa Claus to see from the North Pole, come see what makes this small-town Christmas so special. And you get to select your favorites. Voting takes place online here from Dec. 3 – 24. Check back Dec. 3 to cast votes.

St. Mary’s Art Center 7th Annual Holiday Faire

St. Mary’s Art Center offers a truly festive holiday shopping experience with over 20 local and regional artists and makers sharing and selling their creations in a decorated, music-filled space. Parade Of Lights

See the spirit of Christmas travel through our historic town as Christmas cheer lights up the streets with our annual Parade of Lights, Saturday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. Sip some hot cocoa and enjoy sweet treats from our local shops as you take in the warmth of the Christmas spirit.
Magical Christmas Fireworks Show

Nothing says holiday magic like fireworks during the holidays. It’s just that extra sparkle needed to make your family truly believe in the spirit of Christmas once again. Join us for a special holiday firework show taking place Saturday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. The fireworks take place following the Parade of Lights.
Train O’ Lights
Nov. 26 & 27; Dec. 3 & 4; Dec. 10 & 11; Dec. 17 & 18
5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad lit up with holiday spirit! This evening train lights up the sky with thousands of LED lights, creating a magical Christmas memory that will last forever. Trains depart from the Virginia City depot and the narrated, round-trip ride lasts about 40 minutes. Reserve seats in advance.
Tidings & Tinsel at Piper’s Opera House
Dec. 4, 1-4 P.M., $10 per child
A fun-filled afternoon for the kids at Piper’s Opera House! Bring the little ones to enjoy decorating Christmas tree cookies, writing letters to Santa, ornament decoration, and other fun Christmas crafts. Santa makes an appearance from 1 – 3 p.m. Author Monica Marcinko will read her story, “I Want to Be An Elf,” from 3 – 4 p.m. Hot cocoa and cider will be available for purchase along with mixed drinks for the grownups.
A Comstock Christmas Carol by Piper’s Players
Dec. 10 At 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
This family-friendly play features the story of the Christmas Carol and is set to the fun and light-hearted music of The Muppets Christmas Carol. The classic Christmas tale is one for the whole family with music and dancing to entertain all ages.
