Happy International Tempranillo Day! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the varietal than with a bottle of Abacela Tempranillo, the first winery to plant it in Oregon. All estate-grown fruit for the 2018 Fiesta was picked in late September and early October 2020, then processed just feet away in the winery. After aging in 94% neutral barrels– 25% American and 75% French oak– the 2018 Fiesta Tempranillo had pleasant tannins that softened with exposure to air. This wine is particularly wonderful when served slightly chilled so don’t be afraid to toss it in your fridge for a 1/2 hour before you open it.
Color:
Black cherry
Bouquet:
Red cherries // pluots // vanilla // black tea // earthy // raspberries
Palate:
Blackberries // red licorice // baking spices // black plums // raspberries // fresh chopped herbs // tart // black cherries // prominent tannins that softened with air
Food pairing suggestions:
BBQ jackfruit sandwiches // steak gorgonzola flatbread // grilled pork and onion tacos
