Grenache, pronounced greh-nosh, is such a versatile grape and pairs really well with many types of dishes! It’s usually lighter-bodied with high acidity, a perfect mate with all kinds of food.

Grown at Abacela’s estate vineyard, the Grenache grapes are east/west oriented in order to gain more shade. They are just a short tractor ride from the winery, where Andrew Wenzl, Abacela’s long-time winemaker, processed the freshly harvested grapes. He chose to age this wine in 100% neutral French oak barrels, a smart decision that allows the fruit to shine through in the glass. I also really enjoyed how the tannins changed as this wine opened up!

Garnet red

Raspberries // dark chocolate // mint // bing cherries // hint of anise

Tart // red and black plums // raspberries // cherry cola // cat tongue tannins that softened with time in the glass // red licorice // sour cherries // vibrant acidity

Food pairing suggestions:

Pork empañadas // garlic-herb grilled chicken wings // polenta and sweet potato mash with mushroom sauce // Thanksgiving dinner
