Each year, Kevin Johnson and Beth Klingner, owners and winemakers of Dion Vineyard, located in the Laurelwood District AVA, select the very best barrels of Pinot noir in the winery with which to make their Winemaker’s Reserve. Kevin’s parents planted the estate grapevines in 1973 and sold all their fruit to other Willamette Valley wineries until Kevin started making wine with a portion of it in 2007. A mere three years later, Beth could be found alongside Kevin in the winery.
The 2019 vintage is a memorable one for Pinot noir in the Willamette Valley! Nature presented a number of challenges to grape growers– those are the vintages the Winerabblers seek out. (Follow this link to read more about the 2019 growing season.) This wine is still a baby! If you decide to open it soon, be sure to decant before drinking, so it can breathe and open up.
